Harrisburg School District Selects Next Superintendent

Important Information

Dear Harrisburg School District Community,

Harrisburg School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Benjamin Henry will be the District’s next superintendent with approval planned for the School Board meeting on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Dr. Henry’s anticipated 4-year term will begin on November 1, 2024. Meanwhile, Dr. Marcia Stokes (Chief Financial Officer) who was appointed Acting Superintendent effective July 1, 2024, will continue to serve in that capacity until Dr. Henry assumes the role. The School District of the City of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is a culturally diverse, urban school district in South Central Pennsylvania.

The City of Harrisburg proper is home to approximately fifty thousand (50,000) residents. Rich in history, the City of Harrisburg, the Capital of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the seat of Dauphin County, is the hub of a metropolitan area of people in South Central Pennsylvania. Now the regional center of finance, transportation, commerce, recreation, special events, entertainment, history, arts and government, Harrisburg is approximately one-hundred (100) miles from Philadelphia, two-hundred miles from Pittsburgh, one-hundred seventy (170) miles from New York City, eighty-one (81) miles from Baltimore and one-hundred six (106) miles from Washington, DC.
