Dear Harrisburg School District Administrators, Faculty, and Staff,
Did you know that more than 400 students and their siblings were served by our McKinney-Vento Program last school year?
No one should have to worry about whether they will have food on their plate or a roof over their head. But the reality is that hunger and homelessness are widespread problems that affect far too many people. For more information on the impact of hunger and homelessness visit: https://hhweek.org/hunger-and-homelessness/.
Homelessness at any age is a traumatic experience, causing emotional, physical, and mental reactions in children and youth. The PA Education of Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH) program helps students experiencing homelessness have a school life that is as regular as possible and access to free public education.

The Harrisburg School District continues to support and assist our students facing displacement (homelessness). In addition to our district liaison, each school social worker serves as the assigned Point of Contact for each building. If you feel that a student or family needs additional support, please reach out to your school social worker listed below.
- Ben Franklin- Sierra Hoover
- Downey- Lindsey Zeky
- Foose- Joshua Myers
- Melrose- Tina Palumbo
- Scott- Galen Gillis

This year, please consider adopting a displaced family for the holiday. This could be done as a school project where a few families are selected, or you may personally be involved with an organization that would like to give back. Either way, there are a lot of families in need this holiday. Your school social worker would be able to select the most appropriate family for you to donate towards.
