Steele Elementary School Community Presentation

Dear Harrisburg School District Parents and Staff,

We are excited to move forward with the renovation of Steele Elementary School, set to open in the 2024-25 school year, and are holding an informational meeting to share our plans for the school.

Parents/guardians who live in the Steele Elementary attendance area (generally the Camp Curtin, Ben Franklin, and former Steele Elementary attendance areas) are invited to attend a brief presentation on Monday, January 9 at 6 p.m. at Camp Curtin Academy or via livestream at the District’s YouTube or Facebook page.

Steele Elementary School was closed 8 years ago. The renovation of this school will provide more space for the District’s elementary students, as well as expand the potential for early learning opportunities for the children of Harrisburg.

The Steele Elementary School’s design is complete and will shortly be released for public bid. Construction will take place over the next 18 months. Plans include:

  • A complete renovation of the existing school
  • New white boards and visual instruction boards
  • Updated technology
  • A modern heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system for indoor air quality
  • New windows and doors that will bring more natural light into educational spaces
  • Safe school design procedures focused on security
  • New Parking lots
  • New playgrounds and play equipment, along with sidewalks and fencing for security

The school will house grades K – 5, will have 3 classrooms per grade, along with a dedicated small group instruction room, art, music, and special education classrooms. The design also includes an addition that will house space for 4 new classrooms and a dedicated cafeteria and kitchen.

The presentation about the plans for Steele Elementary will also be posted on our website, after January 9.

We look forward to sharing these plans with you and hope to see you at the presentation.

Sincerely,

Eric Turman,

Superintendent
