Superintendent's 2021 Athletic Update

Superintendent Chris Celmer

January 6, 2021

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:

The Harrisburg School District will begin winter athletics on Friday, January 8, 2021. The school district has put a number of new mitigation initiatives in place, which include, but is not limited to:

  • Split practices to reduce the number of participants;
  • Limited roster sizes;
  • Transition windows between practices; and
  • No spectators at events (events will be live streamed).

The aforementioned is in addition to mandatory mask wearing and other mitigation procedures adopted during the fall season. A parenteral waiver will again be required. The Harrisburg School District will continue to monitor Covid-19 data on a weekly basis. The District reserves the right to pause workouts and cancel scheduled games if:

  • The weekly positivity and incidence rates show a sustained increase;
  • We begin to see our players or coaches contract Covid-19; and/or
  • We receive information and/or recommendations from local health professionals to postpone activities.

No one can predict how the virus may or may not impact this plan, but we are going to give winter athletics a chance to participate during this very difficult time. I thank you in advance for working with Athletic Director, Calvin Everett to keep our students safe as we attempt to begin winter athletics.

Sincerely,

Mr. Chris Celmer, M.S.Ed.

Acting Superintendent

Harrisburg School District
