Parent Letter: Passing of a Student

April  6, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is with great sadness that we inform you that a student of our school community passed away April 1, 2021, as the result of a tragic homicide.   On behalf of the Harrisburg High School – SciTech Campus, we offer our condolences and support to the family at this difficult time.

A sudden loss like this can have an effect on students.  For this reason we encourage you to be alert to feelings and reactions that your child may be expressing.  Sudden death is painful to understand and your child may experience signs of stress.  These include:

  • Sleep difficulty
  • Changes in eating habits
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Absentmindedness
  • Anger/Irritability
  • Thoughts about death or dying
  • Isolation or withdrawal from activities and friends
  • Guilt
  • Fear and worry
  • Risk taking behavior

Support personnel were made available to students today and will be available in the future, as needed.  If you have concerns about your child, or if they display behaviors that are out of the ordinary, please call our school counseling office.  You can also access services by calling Dauphin County Crisis Intervention at 717-232-7511.  Counselors at this number are available 24 hours a day.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Harrisburg High School- SciTech Campus
