School Counselors provide a safe, nurturing environment to foster a trusting relationship with students where they can explore their feelings and experiences and learn problem-solving skills to find positive solutions to their personal issues.
All Counselors provide:
¨ Identification for students at risk for attendance problems
¨ Communication with teachers/parents and students on academic status
¨ Career planning development & exploration
¨ Coordinate teacher/parent conferences and parent workshops when requested
High School Counselors provide:
¨ Organize PSAT, SAT I and II, Advanced Placement, ASVAB and PSSA testing
¨ College recommendations
¨ Coordination of yearly course selections, course changes, long-term four-year selection plan
¨ Distribute scholarship information and provide financial aid material. Guide parents/students through the application process
¨ Coordinate Senior Parent Night, College Fair, Financial Aid Night, College Admissions Process Night, Course Election Night
¨ Coordinate military contacts through all branches of the service
¨ Act as a liaison between Home School, Vocational Technical School and Alternative Education School
¨ Provide orientation upon enrollment for students new to the high school
